In late January, Malawi was one of three countries struck by Tropical Storm Ana’s high winds and torrential rains. Malawi’s government declared a state of disaster in 15 districts, with Mulanje being one of the hardest hit.

We were so thankful to hear of the safety of all the NNT team after Internet connections restored but deeply saddened to learn that many homes, including NNT teachers and their families, have been damaged. Adding to this, entire fields of crops have also been destroyed meaning a difficult period of hunger may lay ahead.

NNT teacher Mr Alimoyo recently reported that he was shocked to see some of the pupils now coming to school from camping places because their homes have been destroyed by cyclone Ana.

It really does act as a reminder to us about how important the daily bowl of fortified porridge that the children receive at nursery is.
